History of Surf City Squash Club
Surf City Squash became an incorporated society in 2004. Formally an arm of the Poverty Bay Tennis Association, the club has been in operation for over 50 years. A 5-court squash and 2-storey facility, the club also provides men and women shower blocks, a bar/lounge area as well as a viewing area and veranda. The layout of the club provides an open plan environment that conforms to a healthy and safe environment. The club promotes an inclusive and friendly atmosphere for individuals and families.
Surf City Squash is situated in Childers Road, and is at the centre of a sporting fraternity. The club has neighbours such as the YMCA, Badminton, Netball, Bowling, Tennis, d with most competitive tournaments seeing approximately 300 people walking through our facilities to play as a competitor or watch the games as a support person.
The club also has regular uses of the courts such as Gisborne Intermediate, Turanga Ararau, and Turanga Health. These organisations have used our courts on a weekly basis for many years and give young people an opportunity to play squash and encourage active participation.
Given that we are affiliated to a National body, we also host interclub, district events and local club events that again attract many people through our doors. Financially the club is sound with sponsorship from local communities ensuring we maintain our viability in a competitive environment. Click here to edit your membership details... |
